Hot-Lay
Hot-lay bituminous material is commonly used on roads and streets as it has a quick cooling time. It is made up of a combination of stone, sand or gravel and asphalt cement. This mixture is heated to around 150-160°c and poured to create a very flexible surface that can withstand extreme weather conditions.
We offer certification on Hot-Lay from the following awarding bodies: SQA, SWQR.
SQA Unit O6 – Reinstatement in Hot-Lay Bituminous Materials
The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely work with Hot-Lay Bituminous Materials. This course includes theory and practical elements, with tests being conducted on each.

A maximum of 8 delegates can attend this course.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the tests, delegates will be issued with a Scottish Qualifications Certificate (SQC). Delegates wishing to have this Certificate added to an SWQR Card must also hold the 2 Key Certificates; LA – Location and Avoidance of Underground Apparatus and either O1 – Signing, Lighting and Guarding (Operatives) or S1 – Monitoring Signing, Lighting and Guarding (Supervisors). Each certificate shown on the card is valid for 5 years.
To maintain their card and registration with SWQR, delegates are required to complete Re-Assessment Tests for the certificates they hold every 5 years.
Location
This course can take place at our training centre in Bo’ness, West Lothian or at a location of your choice, using your equipment and materials, subject to onsite requirements.
